POSITION TITLE: Assistant Choir Director & Accompanist

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold proper state certification or possess equivalent experience and qualifications in choral accompanying/piano performance

REPORTS TO:
Head Choir Director and Principal and/or Supervisor

Jefferson City High School is searching for an accomplished and collaborative teacher/musician to serve as its Assistant Choral Director and Accompanist. As Assistant Choral Director/Accompanist, you will work in partnership with the Head Choral Director to support and help lead a program of 3 curricular choirs. Those choirs include Chorale, the top auditioned mixed ensemble; Bella Voce, a select women’s ensemble; and Concert Choir, the non-auditioned choir.

Primary responsibilities include daily piano accompaniment for rehearsals and performances, assisting with rehearsals, sectional instruction, and student musicianship development. Additional responsibilities may include teaching or assisting with other fine arts duties/classes within your expertise as assigned according to district needs.

There is an extra-curricular choir that can take many forms depending upon interest and personnel. A stipend is provided for work with that ensemble and it may be team taught or assigned to the Choral Director or Assistant Director. Other responsibilities will include assisting with music selection, assessment of the students in the program, responsibility for completion of administrative duties as assigned, and promoting the department to the parents and the public at large. The ideal candidate will have strong collaborative piano skills, experience accompanying choral ensembles, and the ability to assist in choral rehearsal techniques and vocal pedagogy.

The program enjoys widespread support in the community and is highly visible as it performs in its concerts. Of note is the 86-year tradition of the performance of Capitol Caroling, an annual Christmas concert that is performed in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda and combines the choirs, bands, and orchestras for performances of traditional favorites and accessible major works. Chorale has an impressive history of excellence with numerous and consistent top ratings at MSHSAA contests, consistent membership in All-State Choir, performances at MMEA state music convention and former graduates who have become music educators in their own right. Compensation is competitive with the district adding significant increases in the base recently with plans for future additions. Also, stipends are provided for work as the Assistant Choral Director and extra-curricular ensemble support.

To apply, please submit a letter of interest highlighting your skills and preparation as they apply to the job duties, a resume’/vita, and three letters of recommendation with contact info from individuals who are familiar with your work and skill sets. Audio or video of accompanying, rehearsals, or performances may be requested at a later date.
