Position Title: Instructional Coach

FLSA:  Exempt

 

Annual Schedule: Teacher contract (plus 10 days)

 

Purpose: The Jefferson City Public Schools is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Instructional Coach to serve in the district’s elementary schools. The Instructional Coach will support and coach classroom teachers in implementing changes in curriculum, instruction and assessment; serve as teacher leader; model examples of high-quality teaching and learning, analyze results to determine changes needed; assist teachers in linking assessment data with classroom instruction; work with administrators and parents; support buildings in development of pyramid of interventions; continue to learn and develop strategies based on research; provide high quality professional development opportunities for staff; and utilize appropriate coaching models to support teacher development.

 

Reports to: Building Principal and appropriate Curriculum Director (K-5 or 6-12)

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education
  • Valid teaching certificate
  • Master’s degree preferred

 

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
  • Previous coaching or teacher leadership experience
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories
  • Knowledge of researched-based instructional practices and instructional strategies
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations
  • Experience with designing and delivering quality professional development for teachers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team
  • Demonstrated interest and engagement in professional learning and reflection

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on improving student achievement
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with student, teachers, parents and administrators
  • Communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance
  • Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching to support teacher in implementing effective instructional practices
  • Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed
  • Provide support in analyzing student assessment data
  • Assist teachers with instructional decisions based on assessment data
  • Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies
  • Assist teachers in securing or creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum
  • Model effective delivery of instruction
  • Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals
  • Assist with development and implementation of district curriculum, instruction and assessments
  • Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers
  • Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions
  • Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with other Instructional Coaches, curriculum specialists and district specialists.
  • Support the implementation and effective use of technology to support teaching and learning.
