POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified in Special Education
- Detailed understanding of the special education process
- Excellent communication skills
JOB GOAL:
To provide specially designed instruction as required by students' Individualized Education Plan, administer educational evaluations, assist in determining eligibility for special education, and assist with compliance of local, state and federal requirements for the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide specially designed instruction to students as outlined in the students IEP
- Progress monitor the IEP goals and provide progress reports as outlined in the students IEP
- Adjust instruction according to student needs and progress monitoring data
- Develop and implement lesson plans for students to address the unique needs of the student and also allow access the general education curriculum
- Conduct and participate in IEP meetings and decisions in compliance with district procedures and state/federal laws
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
- Maintain an open line of communication with parents and provide appropriate information
- Effectively collaborate with paraprofessionals, special education teachers, grade level teachers, /district administrators, and related therapists
- Administer educational evaluations and assist with making special education eligibility determinations.
- Assist site staff in organizing and providing special education and related services in compliance with Federal/State/District regulations.
- Demonstration of proficient computer technology skills and willingness to learn District software programs.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Special Services
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to move around in the diagnostic and instructional area.

- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology, curriculum)
- Adhere with all relevant health and safety standards and policies of the Jefferson City School District.
